Feature and Follow Friday

Alison Can Read Feature & Follow

Today's Question Is...

What is a book you didn't like that everybody raved about or what book did you love that wasn't popular?

Books I didn't love: Well, one is The Summer I Turned Pretty. I mean, it was good, but not great. Please don't hate me for saying that! Also, I just couldn't get into the Book Thief, or Born Wicked. Sorry, sorry, sorry!

Books I did: No one seemed to like A Beautiful Dark. I, however, enjoyed it. Just a little of paranormal fun with a good message. No mind blowing writing. But then again I didn't expect anything more.

I also loved Of Poseidon, which got pretty bad reviews on Goodreads. Another book is Half blood. A lot of people called it a copycat (maybe it is, I haven't read Vampire Academy yet) , and complained about the main character being whiny. I loved the main character! And I devoured it in one sitting.

Link me up to your posts! I will always follow for a follow!

  2. I agree with The Summer I Turned Pretty. It was an okay contemp, but not as good as Stephanie Perkins' books or Kody Keplinger's.

I haven't even read Of Poseidon and A Beautiful Dark yet. >.< But I can say for a fact that I enjoyed Half-Blood, and though it is very reminiscent of Vampire Academy, Pure isn't, and the plot does change and evolve in a good way.

  13. The book thief? *jaw drops on the floor* Now that's a shame, because it's one of my all time favorite :( On the other hand, I didn't enjoy A beautiful dark that much.

Hehe, I don't think you should worry too much about stating your opinion... we all have good reasons for not liking a book.

  18. Thanks for visiting my FF, I enjoyed the Summer books, but like you I didn't LOVE them. I thought the last book in the series was a bit disappointing. I've actually avoided Born Wicked because it's got so many mixed reviews. Thanks for visiting my FF. I'm following back!

  20. New follower. And I agree with Emilee, How did you not get into The Book Thief?! I literally cried while reading that book - but not because it was painful. I just really believed in it.

The rest of the books I haven't read, so can't really comment on them. But the Book Thief? Loved! I guess to each their own ;)

  26. I havent read any of those yet, I'll try to get them, but I honestly did not really like the Hunger Games. The reason it hit the big time is because it is so gripping and tragic. But the story line made me and my friends want to punch Suzanne Collins. You cant put it down!

However, I really love this author I recently found, and it truly shows you that the author wants to educate and entertain. Eva Ibbotson wrote A countess below stairs and a song for summer. Its pretty high level reading, a romance in the early 1900s with lots of russian and brittain politics in a countess below stairs. The ending was so sweet, and I cant wait to finish a song for summer!

    1. Ooooh, I loved Countess below Stairs! Never read a Song for Summer, hope it is satisfying. You should read the star of Kazan, it is also by Eva. :)
