Review: Audrey, Wait!

Audrey, Wait by Robin Benway

California high school student Audrey Cuttler dumps self-involved Evan, the lead singer of a little band called The Do-Gooders. Evan writes, “Audrey, Wait!” a break-up song that’s so good it rockets up the billboard charts.

And Audrey is suddenly famous! Now rabid fans are invading her school. People is running articles about her arm-warmers. The lead singer of the Lolitas wants her as his muse. (And the Internet is documenting her every move!) Audrey can't hang out with her best friend or get with her new crush without being mobbed by fans and paparazzi.

Take a wild ride with Audrey as she makes headlines, has outrageous amounts of fun, confronts her ex on MTV, and gets the chance to show the world who she really is.

While I was in Mexico, I kinda ran out of books to read only 5 days into the trip... so I reread a lot of books. Especially this one! I loved the story and never got tired of it. Audrey and her friends had me laughing constantly. This is a must-have for anybody's bookshelf!

The book starts out with Audrey breaking up with her boyfriend, and then watching him perform a song about it that evening. Of course, after that, Audrey is sure she'll never hear the song again... until she does... on the radio. And after that she slowly rises up to one of the top people on gossip websites. Paparazzi starts chasing her, fans begin asking for her autograph.

Audrey, Wait! was different than I expected. This book was funny in a way that is totally relatable. Audrey is just a crazy, music obsessed teenager put in the spotlight. And despite that, Audrey still tries to have first dates, and makes many sarcastic comments that had me laughing.

From watching Audrey banter with her friend on the phone, to laugh at her mom and dad for taking yoga, I felt like this book had a feeling in it that a lot of books don't. (For one, her parents aren't dead, away, distracted, or whatnot like most YA parents these days.) Audrey, Wait had the feeling of most peoples everyday life, with a lot of paparazzi chasing and bombarding fans.

Th ending is epic. It totally had me cheering for Audrey. That is all I will say, no spoilers peeps!

This review is hard to write. I guess it is hard to make my review long if I don't have something negative to say. Kinda sad, huh?Anyway you really, really should read Audrey, Wait! Even if it is not your genre.

5/5 bookcases
