Review: Born Wicked

Born Wicked book was a disappointing reading. The novel was very slow moving and the main character didn't have the spunk I desired. I have almost zero desire to read the next book. All of those variables equate to a very not impressive read.

I felt zero connection to the characters. The only one I even remotely liked was Finn. He was witty, and overall a great character. I found Paul, Cate's best friend/suitor annoying, I found Cate annoying, I found, basically, the whole town either annoying, boring, or very forgettable and like other characters I've read. Although, now that i think about it, I did like Finn's mother, although I forgot her name so... yeah...

The plot felt almost non existent to me. I won't tell you much in fear of spoiling it, but in truth there is little to spoil. Especially since the grain of plot in Born Wicked is pretty predictable.

The author tries to end on a cliff hanger that will make you buy the next one. It didn't work on me. A cliff hanger only works if you, ya' know, actually care what happens to the characters.

The only thing positive praise you will get from me about this book is the pretty cover(s). Actually, the writing is promising. Just next time the author needs to use her amazing writing skills to create a better plot and interesting characters. That is all. It is a pretty short review, but you get the gist. I do not recommend this book unless you don't mind slower paced books.

Although, now that I am going through the reviews on Goodreads, I see that it is quite popular. Hmm. So maybe you will enjoy it, but I didn't. Sorry! Maybe I just like action too much, or my expectations were to high *sigh*

This book is the absolute perfect fantasy read. It is imaginative, deep, funny, exciting, and provides a dark, dangerous world that all book lovers crave. Plus, the cover is Gorgeous with a capitol G.

The characters are entertaining and I felt strongly about each one (hated, loved, wanted to slap, wanted to kiss etc!) I especially loved Chela and her strong personality and hilarious comments. Who doesn't love a good female lead character? 

My favorite thing about this book is the world Leigh created. It is absolutely shattering. It feels bright and dark, magical and gritty. All the different groups (Caduceans, Tainteds, and many more) and characters are genius and fit right into the world. 

All though there are so many names, groups, and complex ideas that you might need to go back and refresh your memory sometimes. But, I think that is one thing that makes this such a good story. You can read it again, and again, and again, and still find something new, a little creative detail or intricate plot, each time. I think this is a book you will appreciate more each time you read it. (My third grade teacher used to say thats how you told a great, well though out novel to an okay one.)

All in all, I really recommend you read this when you want to be breath taken by fun characters (Chela and Faris!), an amazing world and plot, and just to enjoy reading a wonderful fantasy.

Scrutinizing Some Series #1

Well, I have been reading/watching youtube videos about blogging and found out that you don't always have to post a review, meme, etc. ( I already knew this but it just convinced me to think more outside the box) I can post about whatever strikes my fancy.

Lately, I have been finishing up or continuing a lot of interesting series. And I kind of just wanted to get my thoughts out there!

Today I finished Feedback by Robison Wells, and really enjoyed it, although I did enjoy the first book, Variant, more. But, with all the amazingly crazy twists in Variant, I knew right going into Feedback that the 1st book would be hard to beat!

Here is my list of what makes this series outstanding, in order:

1. The unpredictability. This is the #1 thing that makes this stand out
from the crowd!
You are thrown aboard blind, and continue through the series guessing and gasping.

2. The characters. You are trapped, you are left to fend for yourself. Imagine that. Wells does a terrific job of bringing the characters to life. You see what the cruelty and hopelessness has done to each.

3. The fast pace. You will not be bored! I promise!

It has been a long time since I have read such a original, jaw dropping, mind twisting series! I highly recommend Variant!

The 2nd book leaves room for a third, but concludes everything nicely! I really, really, really hope we have another book coming though! Have you read this series? What did you think?

Review: Pure

Previously I said my review for Pure was forthcoming! So here it is!

Well, I am officially a Jennifer L Armentrout fan! Her books are have stunned me every time. First with Half Blood, then with Obsidian, and now Pure. One reason her books are so good is that they provoke emotion, another is that she draws her fantasy so well into the book that it seems like reality.

In this book, you see how Alex has grown since the beginning of half blood, she is still headstrong (one of her charms) but you get to see the passionate side of her, and you can tell she is grown. I liked that, a lot actually.

This a a book you should not read in public, I myself nearly learned this the hard way! There are so many points where you just want to burst out laughing. Thankfully, I was able to control myself in public. I probably did have an idiotic grin in my face most of the time though!

I think Aiden and Seth need this paragraph to themselves. Or at least two sentences. Aiden= Caring, swooning, sometimes you want to throw this book at him. Seth= Makes me laugh, also worthy of having an even heavier book thrown at him! I must confess, I am Team Aiden. I would talk about him some more, but no spoilers!

I loved the magic aspect of this book! Or should I say mythological? It is written well, and had me holding my breath for what happens next. (Aren't the furies awesome?)

Pure is like a really fast roller coaster. You go up, down, are spun around, you laugh, you cry, you scream. And it is over entirely too soon! If there more more series like this, I would be broke. Once you read this, you will need the next book immediately!

I have been reading so many good books lately!

Review: Obsidian

Goodreads description: Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

Okay, I am probably like the last person on earth to read this book. (Maybe I am exaggerating a bit, only a tiny, tiny bit though.)  But this book was, like, the book, ( if you didn't know this yet you and I should be buddies! I had no idea either for a long time!) a year or so ago according to a lot of blogs and people! I hadn't really given it much thought until a month ago when I started seeing the raving reviews.

Well... I read it and... Wow... seriously Jennifer L Armentrout, you are absolutely amazing! I have read Halfblood by JLA, and really liked it, but Obsidian soared sooooo high! (Although I just finished reading Pure by Jennifer L Armentrout and now Obsidian has a worthy rival! My review for Pure is forthcoming...)  Anyway, this book was out-of-this-world! I especially reccomend it to book bloggers because we can all relate to the main character, who is also a book blogger! JLA does know her audience!

The first step to creating a good book is to create characters that provoke emotions. Er, I think the author scored like a 10000 out of 10 on that one! I know that isn't supposed to be possible since it is out of 10, but the characters were so awesome! From bookish Katy, Sweet Dee, dislikable Ash, to Daemon, who can make me want to burst out laughing, blush, or hit him with a large, very heavy, frying pan (and hopefully send him to the hospital)!

Oh. I am doing a post. Sorry, just to let you know I have been sitting in front of my halfway done post, with Obsidian in my hand, rereading it when I should be finishing this post. This would be a good spot to mention it is dangerously addictive! Yeah, don't start it at night or say goodbye to your chance of sleep!

The whole Alien theme is really awesome! The topic is not awkward at all, JLA explains the aliens beautifully and so well you stop thinking of them as fiction! Aliens just flow right into the story with no bumps or breaks, like they belong!

Also, this is one book that will have you laughing, a lot! One of many favorite quotes:

“Swimming was the last thing I wanted to do. Drowning him? Maybe.”

To wrap this up, I recommend you read this like, maybe, right now! I also highly recommend the author! Oh, and, thank the heavens, this is a series!

Well, I would wake up to find myself in the Hogwarts dormitory, and then I would scurry to the library, badger all the professors with questions, and proceed to have a great big breakfast at the great hall!

Or, If I didn't wake up in a Harry Potter book, I would awaken in Gallagher Academy, and rush to my first spy class!

Review: The Selection

I heard somewhere that you either loved or hated this book. For me, it was love at first page. The writing transported me into America's world. It was a light read (which after reading Nevermore I needed quite desperately) and was fun, but with good messages.

I think I am Team Maxon...okay, I know I am! But, I can't just ditch Aspen! He is amazing too!
This was a change for me, normally I root for the Aspen- styled love interest, but, well,  there is no denying I am all for Maxon being with America! Maybe because he balances off her temper so beautifully.

I read this book sprawled out on my bed, where I proceeded to squeal, giggle, and bury my head into my pillows laughing or smiling! When I have this reaction to a book I know it'll definitely be a favorite!

The castle where this takes place captured my attention at once, I love castle settings! Also, all the 35 girls were completely lovable/hatable depending on which one! All the characters were believable and added to the story! From America's family (who are amazingly written) to the servants (they are so sweet to each other, and I love how they and America get along).

I really love America as the main character, I connected to her immediately, she is spunky and real! I also love that she plays the violin! I play the violin as well, it is such a great instrument!!!

I am in desperate need of the sequel, the Elite. Isn't the cover beautiful?

I would definitely recommend this! If you aren't sure if you'll be in the love this book or hate this crowd, at least check it out from the library or borrow it!
